• October 24-25, 2011

During 2 days in October, Principals, Dev Sitaram and John Johnson along with Senior Associate John Garcia, participated in the “Power of Green” Conference at the University of Delaware. Sponsored by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Delaware the Conference brought together Academia, Government and the Private Practices to share ideas and insights in successful Green Industry projects. As an Exhibitor at the Conference Karins and Associates was able to show case its capabilities in serving the Green Industry and many conference participants applauded Karins and Associates efforts.

 

• September 26-28, 2011

Over 300 domestic and international participants attended the Philadelphia Low Impact Development Symposium in September. Karins and Associates was featured as designers for a Poster Presentation that show cased the Brandywine Pavilion project and the design efforts utilized to create a Low Impact Development that utilizes Green Building Techniques. John Garcia, PE, Senior Associate and member of the US Green Building Council, was there to explain how these efforts in green engineering design allows Karins and Associates to keep in the forefront of “Green” Development”.

 

• June 21, 2011

On June 21, 2011, Karins and Associates hosted a wetland regulations seminar featuring a presentation by Jim McCulley, of Watershed ECO, on how htese new regulations will affect projects statewide. Attendees, including developers, landowners, engineers and environmental professionals, listened to this morning presentation while enjoying coffee and donuts. • May 17, 2011

During the September 25- 28th Philadelphia Low Impact Development Symposium Karins and Associates will present a Poster Project for Brandywine Pavilion which show cases the design efforts to create a Low Impact Development that also utilizes Green Building Techniques. This effort includes innovative stormwater management practices and utilizing roof top runoff storage for future landscape watering. John Garcia, PE, member of the US Green Building Council, explains how these efforts in engineering design displays how Karins and Associates stays in the forefront of “Green” Development.

 

• May 16, 2011

At the University of Delaware this Semester, John Garcia, PE (Senior Associates) delivered a presentation on Land Development to the Students of the Real Estate and Land Development Class at the Alfred Lerner Business School. The presentation covered land development details and options for projects in New Castle County and the City of Newark. The class is taught by Adjunct Professor David Wilk, National Director for Corporate Real Estate for the Sperry Van Ness. Students were eager to learn about the “nuts and bolts” of what goes into a Land Development project.

• March 27, 2010

  Karins would like to congratulate the University of Delaware Civil Engineering Senior Design program on winning Grand Prize for the 2010 NCEES Engineering Award for Connecting Professional Practice and Education! Karins employees Tom Coleman and Ross Bickhart served as “Young Mentors” for the program, assisting with deliverable preparation and challenging students to think critically and “Like an Owner.” Tom will be accompanying the course coordinator to the NCEES annual meeting in Denver this August to receive the award on behalf of the University. • February 19, 2010

  Karins employees braved the cold weather and nearly two feet of snow to help Habitat for Humanity build the Grace Point project on Lake Street in Middletown, DE. Because of the snow, the project was behind schedule and professional framers were brought in to get the project caught up. Most of our work consisted of moving and sorting drywall and pre-fab walls onto the foundations of the six townhomes. It was messy, but well worth the effort! Thanks to our volunteers Jeremy Armstrong, Ross Bickhart, Kevin Corcoran, Tim Filasky and Ubaidur Quabili. The first homeowners are moved in and the dedication ceremony is set for August 6.
