Karins and Associates has been asked through the Delaware Home Builders Association to be part of the Standards Committee for State of Delaware Senate Bill 64. Senate Bill 64 is an act to amend Title 7 of the Delaware Code relating to Floodplain and Drainage Standards, Wetlands and Subaqueous Lands. The committee is tasked to recommend standards for guidance that will be used State Wide to minimize the risk of flooding. Senior Associate, John Garcia sits on the committee as a Representative of the Home Builders Association that will develop recommendations for the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control to issue to the State Senate.
During 2 days in October, Principals, Dev Sitaram and John Johnson along with Senior Associate John Garcia, participated in the “Power of Green” Conference at the University of Delaware. Sponsored by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Delaware the Conference brought together Academia, Government and the Private Practices to share ideas and insights in successful Green Industry projects. As an Exhibitor at the Conference Karins and Associates was able to show case its capabilities in serving the Green Industry and many conference participants applauded Karins and Associates efforts.
Over 300 domestic and international participants attended the Philadelphia Low Impact Development Symposium in September. Karins and Associates was featured as designers for a Poster Presentation that show cased the Brandywine Pavilion project and the design efforts utilized to create a Low Impact Development that utilizes Green Building Techniques. John Garcia, PE, Senior Associate and member of the US Green Building Council, was there to explain how these efforts in green engineering design allows Karins and Associates to keep in the forefront of “Green” Development”.
On June 21, 2011, Karins and Associates hosted a wetland regulations seminar featuring a presentation by Jim McCulley, of Watershed ECO, on how htese new regulations will affect projects statewide. Attendees, including developers, landowners, engineers and environmental professionals, listened to this morning presentation while enjoying coffee and donuts. At the University of Delaware this Semester, John Garcia, PE (Senior Associates) delivered a presentation on Land Development to the Students of the Real Estate and Land Development Class at the Alfred Lerner Business School. The presentation covered land development details and options for projects in New Castle County and the City of Newark. The class is taught by Adjunct Professor David Wilk, National Director for Corporate Real Estate for the Sperry Van Ness. Students were eager to learn about the “nuts and bolts” of what goes into a Land Development project.
