Karins provided Surveying and Engineering services for this development project in New Castle County Delaware. Located on Ogletown-Stanton Road near the Christiana Hospital, the Park Stream Medical Center meshes well with the character of the surrounding area and serves as a patient-care office for a group of spine care specialists.

The major project element is a 16,500 square foot medical office building with, associated parking, utility extensions, drainage infrastructure, and stormwater management facilities.

The project is located within the White Clay Creek watershed and stormwater management for the development presented challenges due to limited capacity of stormwater infrastructure downstream of the site, an existing through-site conveyance of off-site highway stormwater runoff, and on-site wetlands. To effectively manage and control the on-site and off-site stormwater runoff, green technology stormwater management facilities were engineered and consisted of a bio-retention basin, a grass filter, stormwater wetlands, and a wetland expansion/mitigation area. These green and environmentally friendly technologies provided the required solution for stormwater management.

The project was entered into the American Council of Engineering Companies of Delaware (ACEC-DE) 2009 Engineering Excellence Awards competition.
