Karins provided Surveying and Engineering services for this daycare project in New Castle County Delaware. The project is located in the rural but developing area below the C&D canal. The project included an 8,200 square foot daycare building to accommodate 150 children, an outdoor play area, parking amenities, stormwater management facilities, and an onsite wastewater treatment and disposal system.

Engineering challenges included the requirement for an onsite wastewater system due to the lack of existing sewer infrastructure in the area and the related requirement to infiltrate stormwater runoff from the impervious site improvements. Stormwater management was provided by green technologies that included a bio-retention basin and an infiltration trench. The site also required an on site well for water supply, which imposed additional constraints to provide for isolation distances from the wastewater system and stormwater infiltration system.
